How Air Conditioning Works
On the cooling cycle, the indoor heat exchanger absorbs heat from the surrounding air and produces cool air. Air flowing across the outdoor heat exchanger removes the heat from the refrigerant. On the heating cycle a special four way valve reverses the flow and therefore the process, as indicated in the diagram.
