Rapid Air Conditioning, a division of Rapid Climate Control Ltd, has designed, supplied and installed a fully integrated system at the St Alban’s base of the Northern Home Counties Division of Fairclough Homes.

Fairclough Homes 2The Division moved into the building in the summer of 2001 but later took the decision to have air conditioning installed due to the large amount of glass in the walls and pyramidal roof which caused uncomfortably hot ambient temperatures in the summer.

Division Finance Director Chris Hearn explained: “A key factor was Rapid’s ability to understand our requirements and develop a solution which was both practical and aesthetically pleasing. We were also impressed by their ability to advise on the best products for the job and the overall practicality of what we were seeking to achieve”.

Fairclough Homes 1The installation incorporated both conventional air conditioning units alongside the unique ‘Easi-Fit’ Unico units. Fujitsu high and low level wall mounted units were fitted in the majority of areas, whilst Unico units were installed in perimeter offices to minimise the effect of condensers on the external appearance of the building.

The Unico units are independently installed units which require no condenser and only a discreet external grille. This is one of a growing number of installations of this type where it is impractical for logistical or aesthetic reasons to air condition an area by means of a permanent fitted system.

What they say:

“The overall effect of the installation has been amazing. Previously, due to the amount of glass the offices were intolerably hot on sunny days. Any fears we had that the new system would not alleviate this quickly proved to be groundless. We are delighted with our choice of supplier and the final installation. Now, even in the height of summer the environment is cool and comfortable.”
