Since the Elephant & Castle underground station was opened in 1890 the historic building has undergone several transformations. Today the buildings above the station are used as an administrative centre and accommodation for drivers and Emico Ltd recently embarked on a major modernisation of the 4 storey accommodation area.

The first stage of the project was to choose contractors, and when it came to selecting a partner to install the climate control Emico had no hesitation in approaching Rapid Air Conditioning with whom they’ve built up a long term relationship based on previous successful projects including Morden CCTV room.

With the wellbeing of the drivers being a key consideration, Emico wanted to provide all year round climate control that would maintain a healthy environment and Rapid recommended Mitsubishi units which will not only provide convenient and quiet control of cooling and heating, but also include state-of-the-art anti-allergy filters which improve air quality and prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses within the room.

The system specified involved the installation of 17 MSZ-GB50VA and 1 MSZ-GB35VA wall mounted units which are located throughout the office and accommodation areas.

Throughout the refurbishment programme the accommodation was still being used by the drivers and there were contractors working in many of the areas simultaneously, so in the face of tight and cramped conditions and to make sure the tight deadlines were met, Rapid completed the entire climate control installation at night.
